ARTIST STATEMENT

"In creating artwork, I have found that I enjoy using the visual representational language of drawing and painting to express my artistic inspiration, ideas and feelings. I am continually studying the works and writings of contemporary and historical masters. To increase my skills, methods and knowledge, I have a deep appreciation of the benefits of studying from life. There is something about working from life that is exhilarating.

Although I enjoy using a variety of mediums, my favorite is oil colors due to the depth, texture, ease of manipulation and luminosity they provide in creating art. I can achieve a three-dimensional effect by applying thin transparent darks which will recede back into space and the thicker lights which will come forward as light illuminates the work from above.

My preferred approach to painting requires years of rigorous training, experience and inspiration, and although a knowledge of the materials, painting and creative processes are fundamental and essential in the way that I work, my hope is that my art will connect on an emotional or spiritual level - inspiring, empathizing and uplifting all who view my work."
